The Global Energy Management (GEM) Program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School is proud to announce its new presence in Houston, Texas.  GEM Director of External Affairs, Cathy Steffek, is in Houston working to raise GEM’s visibility, recruit new students, and engage energy companies and executives to become more involved in the program.

GEM will launch exciting new initiatives in the energy hub of North America by hosting professional development seminars, networking events, and other educational opportunities.

“Having a presence in Houston has been on the long-term plan for the GEM Program since its inception,” said Col. John Turner, GEM Executive Director. “Now, prospective students and energy executives can personally meet with a member of the GEM team to learn more about how our program is transforming energy professionals into tomorrow’s leaders.”

The GEM Program is a graduate business and leadership degree program exclusively focused on the energy industry. The program was developed in partnership with prominent energy companies to help the industry cultivate a specialized workforce and prepare for “the next big crew change.” GEM helps landmen, geologists, engineers, and other energy professionals expand their business acumen and leadership capabilities beyond their current areas of expertise, preparing them for roles in management and beyond.  A recent survey of alumni revealed that more than 75 percent have already experienced career advancements and have seen significant salary increases.

The program started with its first cohort in 2009 and has experienced much success since. Currently, GEM has nearly 140 alumni located across the globe and is about to introduce its tenth cohort in July.  The program’s global reach is made possible because of its course delivery method which is a combination of classroom and online (or hybrid) teaching. This allows working professionals to enroll while maintaining their current full-time positions. In addition, what makes GEM unique is that 87 percent of its faculty has extensive experience working in the energy industry.

GEM is one of the many innovative programs offered at the Business School at the University of Colorado Denver. The Business School, located in the heart of downtown Denver, is a hub of innovation, collaboration, and discovery.  With full AACSB accreditation, it places in the top 5 percent of business programs worldwide. The Business School offers outstanding education to more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year who come from around the world to study one of its 12 academic disciplines.
