DENVER— The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) Program awarded more than $40,000 in scholarships in Fall 2014 to 42 students enrolled in the RMI program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School. Scholarships have provided a strong recruiting tool for the RMI program, as they encourage students to take RMI courses and to consider an industry with which they may otherwise be unfamiliar.

Dr. Ajeyo Banerjee, RMI Program Director, remarks, “We are so grateful to all of our industry partners who continue to support our students by providing scholarships. Each contribution makes a huge impact and adds to our recruiting and growth.”

A vast number of insurance professionals are slated to retire within the next five years, and as Denver grows as an insurance and financial hub, that talent need only increases, presenting an ideal time for students to consider this industry.

Robert Weyand, Managing Director of the Denver Territory at AIG, a major provider of AIG and AIG – FAME scholarships (in association with CIAB, Council of Independent Agents and Brokers), commented, “With the demographics of the insurance industry, we see many mature people approaching retirement age, and anything we can do to promote the industry to students, including mentoring them and getting them up to speed as quickly as possible, is paramount to our industry’s success. The RMI program at CU Denver is strategically located between Chicago and the West Coast, providing a regional program for us to support.”

The University of Colorado Denver is Colorado’s only public university to offer an undergraduate program specializing in risk management and insurance, which was established at the Business School in 2010. In eight semesters, the program has grown from 19 students to 179 in the 2013-2014 academic year.
