Business School team to compete in CFA Institute Global Research Challenge

DENVER – A team of five CU Denver students recently met with executives at Molson Coors Brewing Company, the largest brewery in the world, to gain insights related to their preparations for the CFA Institute Global Research Challenge.

The competition “is designed to promote best practices in equity research to business and finance students” worldwide, according to the CFA Society of Colorado.

This is the first year that CU Denver is competing in the challenge and it is putting its best foot forward with a highly diversified team from the Business School. Comprised of two graduate students (Kidoong Kim and Tanmay Mudbidri) and three undergraduate students (Uranchimeg Olonbayar, Kirill Buzinov and Patrick Bursey), CU Denver’s CFA team was assembled on Oct. 7, 2013, to develop an initiation of coverage report, which requires skills in writing, analytics, valuation and equity research.

The CFA Institute Global Research Challenge will take place on Jan. 22, 2014. The CU Denver team will compete against five other local universities, including University of Colorado Boulder, University of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University.

If the CU Denver team wins the local competition, it will advance to the regional finals, which consists of 49 teams from North and South America and takes place in Denver on March 18-19, 2014.
