The Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition chose six finalist teams who will present their business plans in front of a panel of judges on June 19 starting at 8am at the Four Seasons in downtown Denver. The presentations are open to the public.

The Finalists

Geocity – Vertically-oriented firm that finances, develops, and manages geothermal infrastructure assets. Joel Poppert (CU-Denver) and James Adams (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

Knob Where You Need It – Designed propane grill accessory that relocates propane cylinder control valve from below grill to location on grill itself. Cory Civilla (CU-Denver) and Adam Civilla (Precision Tune Auto Care).

Red’s Shed – Peer-to-Peer location-based community connects people who need a tool with those which have it available to rent. Patrick Hutchinson (CU-Denver) and Justin McMinn (Argosy University).

Supercryt Technologies – Improved water-decontamination process Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) using novel materials to allow treatment of highly saline waste water. Ian Jaeger (CU-Denver) and Sean Wisner (CU-Denver).

Superior Ecotech – Developed method for converting waste CO2 to omega-3 oils at breweries and ethanol plants using algae at half current market cost. Daniel Higgs (CU-Boulder), Nicole Reed Fry (CU-Boulder), Philip Calabrese (CU-Boulder), Lang Reynolds (CU-Boulder), and Benjamin Mousseau (CU-Boulder).

YOUglycemia – Non-profit panel of specialty physicians provides advice to clients with type 1 diabetes for quality of life improvement. Adam Burrack (UCD-Anschutz), Daniel Schneider (CSU), Sarah Worah (Metro State University), Mara Schwarz (Barbara Davis Center), and Gillian Forsyth (Navigant Consulting).

An award ceremony and luncheon with key-note speakers Max, Elaine, and Joel Appel will follow the presentations. The Appel Family turned their family recipes for household cleaners into international powerhouse brands such as OxiClean, Orange Glo, and Kaboom. In a discussion emceed by Channel 4’s Jim Benemann, the family members will talk about the Orange Glo Corporation’s journey from garage to global, and where they are today. Registration is required for the awards luncheon.
