Associate Professor of Management Sarah Kovoor could not be happier with South Denver’s first semester, Fall 2014. CU Denver Business School identified the need for offerings after conducting a market study of the south metro Denver area and interviewing leaders from the area’s major employers and professional organizations. The south metro area, which includes one-third of the population of metro Denver, is home to a variety of engineering, finance and health care-related companies.

Kovoor teaches Leading Individuals and Teams. It is an MBA core class that can also be taken by students working towards a certificate, MS or MBA degree. “The students were really good,” says Kovoor following the first month of class. “We got some students from the staff of the Anschutz Medical Campus, some were Business School MBA students that found this location convenient, and one or two were checking out our program and classes at South Denver.”

CU Denver identified the need for more convenient higher education after conducting a market study of the south metro Denver area and interviewing leaders from the area’s major employers and professional organizations. The long-term vision for South Denver is to offer programs designed around what employers are looking for in current employees and new hires.

“Our long term vision for CU South Denver is to continue to serve south metro Denver by expanding our educational outreach and use of our facility to include programs aimed toward adult education,” said Dave Liniger, chairman emeritus of The Wildlife Experience and co-founder of RE/MAX International, Inc. “The educational collaboration with CU and the initial programs that are offered by CU Denver | Anschutz help us achieve that vision and enhance our service to our community.”

The Wildlife Experience was founded in 2002 and designed as a wildlife art and natural history museum, which remains open to the public on the first floor. On the second and ground floors, CU Denver renovated 11,000 square feet of the building to include:

  • Two 48-seat general classrooms
  • A 32-station computer lab
  • Simulation and basic skills lab for the nursing program
  • Student study and collaboration space
  • Faculty and administration support offices

Kovoor loves the building: “It is fun to teach there as you have to walk by some of the exhibits as you walk to class.”
