BAP Theta Sigma

On April 10 and 11, at the Denver Marriot City Center, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapters from across the Rocky Mountain region met.  The regional meeting was hosted by the University of Colorado Denver Business School’s Theta Sigma chapter.

Theta Sigma held a special “Meet and Greet” event at the Business School on Friday, April 10th, which brought together over 100 students from 13 regional chapters with more than 50 professionals from Denver area top financial firms.

Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals.  Chapter meetings promote professional and self-development through notable speakers, group activities and networking with like-minded students and professionals in the finance and accounting fields.

The regional meeting featured presentations for the Best Practices Competitions, sponsored by Deloitte.  These competitions promotes activities that are created and completed by a chapter to enact specific goals and objectives identified by the board of directors of Beta Alpha Psi and by Deloitte.

This year’s Best Practices Competition  focused on Developing the Future, and chapters discussed one of three initiatives: Financial Literacy, Effective Operations, or International Impact.   The winners won prize money and a chance to compete at the annual Beta Alpha Psi national meeting in August 2015.

Business School student, Josh Jarecke, one of the Co-Presidents of Theta Sigma, presented with his fellow Theta Sigma on Financial Literacy.

CU Denver is developing a plan to provide financial literacy services to the community through initiatives such as tutoring sessions open to all CU Denver students. Tax preparation for low income individuals on the Auraria campus, which is a highly unmet need, will be developed by the Business School – more specifically the Tax and Accounting departments.   Theta Sigma is helping to integrate the two programs and “bridge the gap” across the two campuses.  Furthermore, they hope to bring the tax prep assistance to campus and more specifically the Business School as an additional financial literacy resource next tax season.

The Financial Literacy program’s main focus is to provide awareness, change financial mindsets and behaviors, and improve lives and financial well-being. To increase awareness, various workshops, presentations and on-line learning resources and tools are available through our Financial Literacy Educationservice that will enhance your financial knowledge and capacity for higher learning. Example workshops include topics such as: Budgeting and Spending, Student Loan Repayment, and Your Credit Matters.

Visit the Financial Literacy Education website on a regular basis for a full listing of upcoming workshops, presentations and on-line tools at www.ucdenver/FinancialLiteracy . For questions or to request workshops or a presentation, please send an email to FinancialLiteracy@ucdenver.edu.
