The Global Energy Management (GEM) Program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School hosts free professional development seminars, the GEM Speaker Series, to help keep our students, alumni and the energy community up-to-date with the latest energy industry trends.
The next GEM Speaker Series event will take place Thursday, November 8,, 2012 from 12:00-1:00pm. The seminar will be held in room 4500 of the new University of Colorado Denver Business School building, located at 1475 Lawrence St. in Denver. GEM will provide lunch for this event, in addition to the excellent speaker they have lined up.
The November 8 engagement will feature Charles O. Freedgood, Managing Director at J.P. Morgan. Freedgood’s presentation is titled “Commodity Transactions in Distress-An Alphabet Soup of Preventive Medicine (ABL’s, ISDA’s, CSA’s, AA’s…).” Today’s dynamic global energy industry touches every part of our daily lives and it can be impacted by forces outside of the energy sector. This is free event will help you stay on top of the latest issues, innovations and policies, which is essential to successfully navigate this continually growing industry.

About the speaker:
Charles O. Freedgood is a Managing Director in J.P. Morgan’s Special Credits Group, the workout and restructuring division of the firm’s Corporate & Investment Bank. He has nearly 30 years of banking experience at the firm, including 22 years advising and executing complex corporate restructurings and bankruptcies. His experience spans a wide variety of industries, including oil and gas exploration and production, power generation, utilities, manufacturing, insurance, broker-dealer, mortgage finance, retail, transportation, building materials and media. Often on behalf of multi-national syndicates of banks, hedge funds and other lenders, he manages all elements of the workout process, either out-of-court or through bankruptcy, and is responsible for the development, negotiation and implementation of the restructuring/recapitalization strategy. He has sat on Official Creditor Committees in a variety of cases. Previously, he was in the energy division of one of J.P. Morgan’s predecessor firms for over 8 years, lending to domestic oil and gas companies and the affiliated refining, service and pipeline businesses. Earlier, he had been an oil-field geologist. He holds a BS in geology from Stony Brook University and an MBA in finance from New York University.
