DENVER— The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) Program awarded $29,370 in scholarships to 25 students enrolled in the RMI program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School.  Scholarships have been a major focus for the RMI program because they help recruit top students into an industry that they may not consider, or even know about.

Dr. Ajeyo Banerjee, RMI Program Director, states, “We are so thankful to all the companies and individuals who have helped support scholarships for our students. Each scholarship makes a huge impact and they directly helped our growth and recruiting.”

A large proportion of risk management and insurance employees are expected to retire in the next five years, and as Denver grows as an insurance and business hub, it will require an increasing number of new industry professionals.

Susan Waltermire, Senior Vice President & Regional Branch Manager of Chubb Group of Insurance companies, said, “We have a responsibility to the insurance industry to support the development of future specialists and leaders in our business. The RMI program is a perfect opportunity to support this development from an educational perspective. We are also playing an active role in expanding the students understanding of the career opportunities in our business.”

The University of Colorado Denver is Colorado’s only public university to offer a program specializing in risk management and insurance, which was established at the Business School in 2010. In six semesters, the program has grown from 19 students to 126 in the last academic year (2012-13).
