On April 9th, between 70 and 80 students at the University of Colorado Denver Business School were joined for an evening information session by Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Todd Trautman, Senior Manager Clinical Informatics and Decision Support and Joseph Crimando, Senior Technical Manager were the main presenters. They were accompanied by Dale Hamlin, Director of EPIC Electronic Medical Records and Ken Sipich, Director Clinical Strategic Support. The distinguished panel was introduced by Dr. Jiban Khuntia, Assistant Professor, Information Systems, and faculty advisor to the Information Systems Association (ISA); who co-organized the event with Business Career Connections and the CITI-Digital Health Consortium.
The information session surrounded the health IT research activities at Kaiser Permanente, as well as career opportunities in health IT. After the panel was introduced, Dr. Trautman discussed Clinical Decision Systems, HealthTrac, and Impact Evidences. Clinical Decision Systems or CDSS are health technology systems designed with a purpose to aid doctors and other healthcare workers with clinical decision-making tasks, such as diagnosis or analysis of patient data. HealthTrac, an exclusive Kaiser Permanente program that began in 1998, allows for patients to keep up to date with their healthcare, as well as allow multiple doctors to communicate with and see information regarding a particular patient. Dr. Trautman went on to elaborate about the cases in which these programs have seen success.
Joseph Crimando followed with the vast opportunities currently at Kaiser Permanente. Currently, there are several internship opportunities available in development, project management and business analysis areas.
The evening ended with a question and answer session between the panel and students.
