DENVER, July 17, 2013 – The University of Colorado Denver Business School will hold a symposium in the Old Supreme Court Chambers of the historic Colorado Capitol to discuss energy efficiency in historic buildings.

The program will be hosted by the school’s Managing for Sustainability Program and will address how energy conservation measures and alternative energy technologies have lowered operating costs and improved comfort and safety at the Colorado Capitol. Particular emphasis will be placed on the recent ground source heating and cooling project, which uses state-of-the-art renewable geothermal energy technologies to upgrade the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, which are between 70 and 140 years old.

Colorado is only the second state in the nation to use geothermal energy in its capitol.
