The Business School solidified its position as a leading international business program in Colorado and the United States with the re-designation of CU Denver’s Institute for International Business as a Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).
With this designation and a $1.1 million award over four years, CU Denver becomes one of only 17 CIBERs in the United States.
This prestigious program was established by Congress in 1987 under the Title VI program, which is focused on building a U.S. international education infrastructure to keep the U.S. competitive in the global economy. CU Denver first received a CIBER award in 1993 and has remained a national center of excellence since then. It is the only CIBER in Colorado and one of two in the Rocky Mountain region.
“The CIBER designation enhances the key role of the Business School in promoting international business education for the benefit of our students, faculty, and business community stakeholders,” said Sueann Ambron, Dean of CU Denver’s Business School. Nationally, it will enable U.S. students gain strong credentials in international business, language, and culture to be able to work in a global economy.
“For this 2014-2018 CIBER grant cycle, we have proposed a number of innovative and high-impact internationalization initiatives,” said Manuel G. Serapio, PhD, principal investigator and Associate Professor of International Business in the CU Denver Business School. These include:
- A new Certificate in International Entrepreneurship to be offered in partnership with the Business School’s Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship
- International field study courses to major entrepreneurship hubs such as Singapore and Chile, and several new courses in social and international entrepreneurship
- An international credential program (Global Badging) to be piloted in partnership with the Community College of Denver and rolled out in Colorado and the United States as a nationally branded CIBER program
- Pathways to International Internships and Employment aimed at increasing international internships and job placement for students
- An International Career Pathway for U.S. Veterans in collaboration with CU Denver’s highly successful Boots to Suits program
- A suite of faculty research projects focusing on international business, language, culture, and pedagogy
- New courses for the MS in International Business Program and BA (International Business) Emphasis Program
- International Executive Roundtable Lecture Series featuring international executives, government officials, and renowned faculty to discuss international business practices.
