A group of CU Denver Business School students recently returned from a Maymester program in Belize. Their goal? Hone their respective business skillsets through service learning projects aimed at helping the local population. Led by Associate Professor of Information Systems, Ron Ramirez, the students embarked on a three-week trip that began in the country’s capital city, Punta Gorda. While abroad, the group collaborated with NGOs and local businesses, allowing them to merge community engagement with academic instruction and providing students a unique, impactful hands-on learning experience. One of the trip’s attendees, Alexi Huppenthal, an information systems undergraduate, documented the experience in a short video highlighting how students worked with the local community, and embraced Belizean culture.
The CU Denver Business School hosts a number of study abroad opportunities throughout the year to countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, China, India, and Cuba. These programs integrate an international component to learning and provide students real-world application of their coursework.
