Ushering in a new era of transparency, Federal rules now mandate that hospitals provide detailed pricing information for common services. However, the presentation of this data is often limited to large, sprawling spreadsheets that are inaccessible to many consumers. This spring, through its annual Case Competition, the Business School Alliance for Health Management (BAHM) challenged 7 graduate student teams to tackle this issue and translate confusing medical pricing information into a comprehensive, comprehensible, customer-facing solution. 

CU Denver Business School MBA students Ali Teimour ‘26, Sangay Mingyur ‘27, and Sara Rodriguez ‘26, rose to this challenge, and their innovative strategy of using text messaging rather than a digital application earned them second place in the competition. 

The competition gave students a unique opportunity to leverage their education and tackle urgent issues facing the field with real-world solutions, culminating in a 2-day trip to Washington D.C., where students met with members of the National Council of Economic Advisors, Domestic Policy Council (DPC) of the executive branch, the Office of Management and Budget, and Health and Human Services, and pitched their solutions to a panel of healthcare policy experts and industry leaders. 

“For me, applying classroom knowledge to a real, high-stakes healthcare problem and defending our pitch in front of industry leaders had the biggest impact. Working with my team on the deliverables realistically mirrored the kind of teamwork required for success in healthcare.”

The BAHM Competition helps shape the future of the healthcare industry, creating a hub for teams across continents to advance healthcare not just in America but worldwide. The Business School is proud to have students like Mingyur, Teimour, and Rodriguez, who are dedicated to advancing global healthcare innovation.

We have been asked to work on a price transparency tool, which is extremely relevant given the current state of healthcare. It is also a wonderful experience to network and connect with students from around the nation in the same field.”
