  • Turning a profit by exchanging health information

    Assistant professor of Information Systems Jiban Khuntia, PhD, along with professors Sunil Mithas and Ritu Agarwal at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, researched a phenomenon in the US healthcare system: why health information exchanges (HIEs) fail. In theory, HIEs are great for everyone, because they assist in the exchange of digital health data for health providers like hospitals, primary care physicians, among others.  Read more

  • CU Denver business professor presents to national leaders on research in energy markets

    Top energy industry officials and researchers gathered at the EIA 2017 Workshop on Financial and Physical Oil Market Linkages on September 19 in Washington, DC. As the statistical agency of the Department of Energy, the administration promotes sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding regarding energy. Four presenters were invited to speak to officials from the White House National Security Council, US Department of Energy, the Federal Reserve Board, BP of America, and other industry leaders.  Read more

  • The economics behind college football conference realignment

    As colleges fight to draw fan interest while staying ahead of their conference competition, a new study from a professor at the CU Denver Business School examines college football conferences being structured based upon competition. The uncertainty-of-outcome hypothesis (UOH) suggests that sports fans value more competitive contests, suggesting that a competitive imbalance within a college conference will motivate the consistently successful teams to leave for greener pastures.  Read more

  • A business school on the rise

    U.S. News & World Report posted their annual rankings for top universities, and the Business School’s undergraduate program was ranked 58th among public universities and 91st overall among national universities. This is an improvement from last year’s 94th ranking overall among national universities. The report’s rankings are based on measures of academic peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and commitment to groundbreaking research.  Read more

  • Confidence in Denver’s economy strong among businesses

    The CU Denver Business School collaborated with the Denver Business Journal to develop a business confidence index based on a survey of business executives in the Denver metropolitan area. The Denver Business Journal approached Dr. Cliff Young, Associate Dean of Faculty and Professor of Marketing, to head this survey, which concluded that the economic climate of the Denver area shows strong growth.  Read more

  • The modern workplace: Researching the relationship between beauty and women’s career success

    University of Colorado Denver professor studies the effects of women’s appearance in the workplace

    According to Traci Sitzmann, management professor at the University of Colorado Denver, outward appearance can make a difference in how a woman is perceived at work. At the same time those observations are capable of hurting women in the workplace by producing discrimination. Physically attractive women are frequently discriminated against when applying for historically masculine jobs.  Read more

  • Global commodities symposium highlights future trends

    Over 80 commodities researchers and practitioners came from across the world to attend the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities (JPMCC) inaugural New Directions in Commodities Research International Symposium on August 9-11 in Denver to discuss critical thinking and new research related to commodities. The agenda for the conference included keynote speakers, speaker sessions organized by academic and practitioner members of the Center’s Research Council, and competitive academic sessions selected by the Technical Committee consisting of Research Council members.  Read more
