Use waste from breweries to make supplements A novel way to create vegan spreads, cheese and dietary supplements using waste from breweries and ethanol plans won first prize Thursday in this year’s Business Plan Competition, sponsored by the Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Denver Business School. Daniel Higgs and Benjamin Mousseau won $10,000 for Superior Ecotech, a company that grows algae using waste carbon dioxide which then produces omega-3 rich oils for a range of products.  Read more

DENVER – The Four Seasons hotel downtown is hosting this year’s Jake Jabs Center Business Plan Competition on June 19 at 8am. The presentations are open to the public. Chosen from a pool of 50 applicants, 6 finalists are set to present their ideas in front of a panel of local entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. The plans range from a propane grill improvement to a geothermal investment and operating firm.  Read more

The Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Denver Business School recently conducted their first “Virtual Pitch Night,” part of their 2014 Business Plan Competition. The virtual event allowed participants in the competition from outside of the Denver Metro area to compete in the annual competition. 2014 marks the first year the Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship has opened the competition to individuals outside of the CU System.  Read more

The Beta Mu chapter of the University of Colorado Denver was initiated into Gamma Iota Sigma, the fraternity for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science, in a ceremony held Saturday night ahead of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.’s annual conference and exhibition. The new chapter is the 60th to join GIS, which chartered its first chapter in 1966 and boasts an annual membership of more than 2,100 students and an alumni population of over 20,000.  Read more
