  • Young inexperienced investors are overconfident, study finds

    When it comes to investing for newcomers, it may not be good to come out swinging. According to new research by assistant professor of finance,Yosef Bonaparte, young investors participating in markets for the first time tend to be less risk averse, overestimating their ability to beat the market.  In his interview with MarketWatch, an online finance publication, Bonaparte explained how experience with bad, market related events erodes overconfidence over time, causing experienced investors to be more risk averse than their younger counterparts.  Read more

  • CU Denver Business School researcher presents at Digital Summit

      CU Denver Marketing instructor/researcher Dr. Francisco Conejo presented at the recent Digital Summit held in Denver. The session, based on a forthcoming article of his in the Journal of Digital and Social Media Marketing, addressed “How to Improve Social Media Brand Personas Using Archetypes”. Applying marketing and psychological theory to digital contexts, and providing numerous real-life examples, the presentation outlined the advantages of archetypal brand personas, also providing attendees with practical guidelines as to how these are best developed.  Read more

    The J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities at the CU Denver Business School is hosting “New Directions in Commodities Research” on August 10-11, 2017. Co-organized by Ajeyo Banerjee, Director of the JPMCC and Graham Davis, Professor of Mineral Economics at the Colorado School of Mines, the international commodities symposium brings together global thought leaders and prominent stakeholders in commodities to discuss critical thinking and new research related to commodities.  Read more

    Dr. Jian Yang’s research is helping to influence policy on the financial sector in China with his research as a visiting fellow at People’s Bank of China (PBOC/PBC) last year. China is on a mission become a stronger player in the game of globalization. With its “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) policy, Chinese leaders hope to expand trade links between Asia, Africa, and Europe by investing in its Silk Road.  Read more

    Some of the most successful companies set goals that often appear audacious and risky.

    As companies struggle to maximize output while staying ahead of the competition, a new study from University of Colorado Denver Business School examines the idea of ‘stretch goals’ and why audacious targets are often misunderstood and sometimes misused. The study, co-authored by CU Denver Assistant Professor of Management Dr. Kelly E. See, was recently published in Harvard Business Review.  Read more
