  • Helping doctors use medical histories to make smarter decisions

    Although the healthcare industry has large databases of medical histories, medical professionals underutilize this potential resource. Medical professionals lack tools to compare medical histories of patients and use medical histories to improve decision-making.   To address this gap, Michael Mannino, PhD, associate professor of Information Systems, developed a research agenda to utilize medical histories in decision-making by healthcare providers.  Read more

  • Turning a profit by exchanging health information

    Assistant professor of Information Systems Jiban Khuntia, PhD, along with professors Sunil Mithas and Ritu Agarwal at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, researched a phenomenon in the US healthcare system: why health information exchanges (HIEs) fail. In theory, HIEs are great for everyone, because they assist in the exchange of digital health data for health providers like hospitals, primary care physicians, among others.  Read more

    “Consistent and persistent efforts to connect students with career perspectives” is the reason why CU Denver Information Systems Association (ISA) has continually won a national award according to faculty advisor, Jiban Khuntia, PhD, assistant professor of Information Systems. Connecting students with IT professionals in the Denver metro area is the heartbeat of the ISA student chapter.   Read more

  • High-Impact practices, enhancing diversity and global learning

    In the fall of 2015, CU Denver hosted an Undergraduate Experiences Symposium in which the concept of High-Impact Educational Practices (HIPs) and their effect on undergraduate student success was introduced. In pursuit of student benefits, CU Denver awarded nearly two dozen grants for the implementation of HIPs into University degree programs, including the Business School’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.  Read more

  • CU Denver’s MOOC specialization among the highest ranked

    CU Denver Business School’s Data Warehousing for Business Intelligence Specialization, a set of massive open online courses (MOOCs) offered through Coursera, is one of the top-rated specializations in the data science category for business, receiving about 4.5 stars out of 5 with a total of over 6,000 course completions across the five courses. The specialization was developed by two Information Systems professors at the Business School, Jahangir Karimi and Michael Mannino.  Read more

  • Learning through community engagement: Maymester in Belize

    Nestled between Mexico’s southern peninsula and Guatemala and located on the eastern coast of Central America lies Belize. The country is renowned for its natural beauty and vibrant culture. Belize also is the site for one of four exciting study abroad Maymester opportunities. Up to 14 graduate and undergraduate students at the CU Denver Business School will travel to the country’s capital city, Punta Gorda this spring.  Read more

  • Students visit major companies during BCC’s first San Francisco Career Trek

    Business Career Connections (BCC) held its first San Francisco Career Trek the week of October 10th. Four graduate students, and 13 undergraduate students attended the trip with Sue Wyman, Director, BCC, and Stephanie Sindt, Career Advisor, BCC.  Students came from Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Human Resources and MBA programs.  Read more
