The Beta Mu chapter of the University of Colorado Denver was initiated into Gamma Iota Sigma, the fraternity for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science, in a ceremony held Saturday night ahead of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.’s annual conference and exhibition. The new chapter is the 60th to join GIS, which chartered its first chapter in 1966 and boasts an annual membership of more than 2,100 students and an alumni population of over 20,000.  Read more

The OneBeacon Insurance Group Charitable Trust has made a scholarship gift of $10,000 to the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program at University of Colorado Denver Business School. This is the first gift from OneBeacon Insurance Group to the RMI program and it will continue the program’s goal to recruit more students into the insurance industry workforce. A large proportion of risk management and insurance employees are expected to retire in the next five years, and as Denver grows as an insurance and business hub, it will require an increasing number of new industry professionals.  Read more

DENVER— The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) Program awarded $29,370 in scholarships to 25 students enrolled in the RMI program at the University of Colorado Denver Business School.  Scholarships have been a major focus for the RMI program because they help recruit top students into an industry that they may not consider, or even know about. Cindy Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed., AIC, was elected as the 2013-14 president and chair of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter Society leadership council at the CPCU Society Annual Meeting on Oct. 27 in New Orleans. Baroway is a lecturer in the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program in the University of Colorado Denver Business School. The CPCU Society provides resources, educational programs and leadership opportunities for its 23,000 members in the property and casualty insurance industry.  Read more
