Five Business School accounting students were recognized for their academic excellence by two highly prestigious accounting organizations.
The Educational Foundation of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants (COCPA) awarded scholarships of 2,500 dollars to four outstanding accounting students. The four awardees were Kelly McIlvride, Amanda Pajonk, Henock Tesfay, and Morgan Wuthrich. Read more
Taking center stage, fittingly, was a student. Leah Porter, a business-management major who embodies the drive, diversity and enthusiasm of CU Denver students, shared her story of overcoming huge obstacles with an audience of about 100.
Porter grew up poor in Malaysia and is the first member of her family to attend college. Chancellor Dorothy Horrell learned through a colleague in the state community college system that Porter had enrolled at CU Denver and was a “superstar.” After meeting with Porter, a recent transfer from Arapahoe Community College (ACC), Horrell invited her to speak at the Campus Conversation. Thursday, August 3, 2017 – CU Denver Business student and RMI senior Janet Zamora-Ramirez met with Brian Snow, Managing Director, Mountain States Territory of AIG, to personally thank him for the $1,000 AIG scholarship Janet received in spring 2017. Brian also wanted to let Janet know how much he appreciated her hand-written thank you note for the scholarship. Read more
A recipient of the Esteemed Business Student Scholarship, Loren Pajares overcame a challenging upbringing to pursue her dream of a career in business. She decided to attend the University of Colorado Denver Business School despite competitive offers from other top schools around the country.
Loren was born in Peru and moved to the U.S. at the age of nine. After spending the family savings to enter the U.S., Loren and her mother were separated from her brother and father for the first six months. Read more
An accomplished graduate student completing a dual MBA/MS in International Business, Sarah Ault plans to apply her service-oriented background to the field of international business after graduation. Sarah’s experiences abroad in both London and Japan would not have been possible without the support of several Business School scholarships.
Sarah moved to Colorado after earning her undergraduate degree and worked for years in the nonprofit community. Read more
Amanda Pajonk has taken full advantage of the opportunities her CU Denver Business School scholarships have afforded her. Amanda, who is a senior majoring in Accounting with a minor in Economics, is heavily involved with her Business School program while working full time at a real estate development company. She is an active member of Beta Alpha Psi and was a speaker at the 2015 Annual Business School Scholarship Luncheon. Read more
