Saturday, October 15, marks the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, a period of recognition of the legacy of the Hispanics and celebration of the Hispanic culture in the United States. Yet, many people have a hard time breaking their own limits and struggle in leadership positions due to self-limiting issues like Imposter syndrome and emotional illiteracy. The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) announced the winners of the 2021 Elijah Watt Sells Award this May, an award given to CPA candidates scoring a cumulative average above 95.5 across all four sections of the CPA exam during their first attempts. More than 72,000 people took the CPA Exam in 2021, and only 57 candidates met the award criteria. University of Colorado Denver Business School alumnus Dylan Croom, BSBA ’19, MS ’20 is one of them.    Read more

CU Denver alumna Gloria Avalos gives sound advice to recent grads after knowing all too well the challenges that take place starting something new. Born and raised in Mexico, Gloria is a first-generation college graduate, graduating from the CU Denver Business School in 2018 with a BA in Marketing and Information Systems. When Jennifer first graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, she had no idea what the world had in store for her, but felt confident that she did not want to pursue a career as an engineer. After graduation, Jennifer began working in management consulting with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in Chicago. She found the work interesting, but a round of layoffs left her without a job two years later.  Read more
