  • How five Business School accounting students won regional and national scholarships

    Five Business School accounting students were recognized for their academic excellence by two highly prestigious accounting organizations. The Educational Foundation of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants (COCPA) awarded scholarships of 2,500 dollars to four outstanding accounting students. The four awardees were Kelly McIlvride, Amanda Pajonk, Henock Tesfay, and Morgan Wuthrich.  Read more

  • A summer working in the CU President’s Office

    Nimmi Nambiar and Nikhil Vanjani are international students from India both pursuing an MS in Marketing here at the CU Denver Business School. While taking a graduate course with Dr. Lawrence Cunningham, Professor of Marketing, last spring, both students caught the attention of a guest speaker, the CRM Director from the University of Colorado President’s Office.   Read more

  • Student government gets a new perspective

    Aleena Sarwana, a junior studying HR Management in the Business School. got involved in student government in her sophomore year. “I felt uninvolved my freshman year, and student government was always doing something to help the school, so I decided to run for office. It gave me a purpose in college,” she said. The same sense of purpose rings true for Grecia Portillo, a fourth-year International Business student, who first got involved in student government as a member of Freshman Council.  Read more

  • The NAPSLO/WSIA internship that keeps on giving

    Since 2016, three outstanding Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) students have landed internships with the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices, Ltd (NAPSLO). Taylor Brock is a dual major in Finance and Risk Management and Insurance. He is also the first CU Denver RMI student to be invited to participate in the new Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association’s (WSIA) Annual Conference in San Diego this September.  Read more

  • First-generation student shares inspirational story

    Taking center stage, fittingly, was a student. Leah Porter, a business-management major who embodies the drive, diversity and enthusiasm of CU Denver students, shared her story of overcoming huge obstacles with an audience of about 100. Porter grew up poor in Malaysia and is the first member of her family to attend college. Chancellor Dorothy Horrell learned through a colleague in the state community college system that Porter had enrolled at CU Denver and was a “superstar.”  Read more

  • What it’s like interning at one of the world’s largest gold producers

    Parag Ravka is a second-year graduate student from India pursuing an MS in Information Systems. This past summer Ravka interned at Newmont Mining, a Fortune 500 company, where he worked as a technology intern. Headquartered in Greenwood Village, Newmont Mining is one of the world’s largest gold producers and is dedicated to sustainable and responsible mining. Ravka’s responsibilities included writing a complex computer language (Procedural Language/ Structured Query Language) and creating business intelligence reports for an environmental project.    Read more

  • Blazing a path into health care

    Andrew French, MD, is the only member of his family to pursue a career in health care. At age 38, he’s already achieved a great deal, having been an emergency room physician and now the medical director of a busy emergency department that is also part of a major trauma center. A big part of what he loves about the field is the ample room in which to take on new challenges and grow professionally.  Read more
