  • 2016 Front Range Finance Seminar

    The spring 2016 Front Range Finance Seminar was hosted at the CU Denver Business School on Friday, April 15th, 2016. Co-organized by Assistant Professor of Finance Yosef Bonaparte and Associate Professor Yufeng Han, the Front Range Finance Seminar was re-instituted this year bringing the Front Range financial university community together for the first time in five years.  Read more

  • Sarah Kovoor-Misra Elected to Leadership Track

    Dr. Sarah Kovoor-Misra, Associate Professor of Management at the CU Denver Business School has been elected to the leadership track of the Western Academy of Management. Kovoor-Misra will be on a four year track starting this year as Vice President, next year as Program chair, the year after as President and concluding as Past President. The Western Academy of Management (WAM) is one of the more active and well regarded regional affiliates of the Academy of Management.  Read more

  • Fewer Skilled Immigrant Worker Visas Means Less Innovation

    A reduction in the number of skilled immigrant worker visas in the United States has had a detrimental effect on innovation, according to a study co-authored by Rina Ray, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Finance at the CU Denver School of Business. Ray and her co-author, Rasha Ashraf, PhD, Georgia State University, found that U.S. firms dependent on skilled immigrant workers saw a decline in both patents and citations since 2004.  Read more

  • Study Examines Why Organizations Repeat Big Mistakes

    On the 30th anniversary of the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle, recent research examines why large organizations as diverse as NASA and BP have a tendency to make the same mistakes again and again, sometimes with serious and far-reaching consequences. The study, written by Assistant Professor of Management David Chandler of the University of Colorado Denver Business School, together with Professor Emeritus Pamela Haunschild and Associate Professor Francisco Polidoro of the McCombs School at the University of Texas at Austin, was published in December in the journal Organization Science.  Read more

    The Director of Finance and Risk Management at the CU Denver Business School Professor Jian Yang is an authority in the Finance world here at CU Denver and abroad. Yang was recently featured in China Daily to talk about stocks slumping across the world precipitated by heavy selling in China as officials in the mainland pulled the plug on a mechanism designed to limit chaotic market activity.  Read more

  • Director of Finance and Risk Management Ranks 31st Worldwide in Real Estate Research

    Finance Professor Jian Yang carries with him many achievements and distinctions. The Director of Finance and Risk Management at the CU Denver Business School has been recognized countless times in the past, including being ranked as one of the 15 commodity friendly professors in the world and among the top 750 (top 4%) most prolific authors in finance worldwide based on the number of publications in 26 core finance journals over the 50 years from 1959 to 2008.  Read more

  • Why the Flat Tax Is More Popular Than Ever

    More progressivity means more progress. Especially after 2008. That’s the Democratic tax philosophy seven autumns after the financial crisis. Voters are still frustrated by the arbitrary quality of the rescues and the uneven quality of the recovery. So Hillary Clinton proposes increases in capital-gains-tax rates for top earners. Clinton’s former fellow candidate Lincoln Chafee offered to raise the top marginal income tax rate to 45% from the current 39.6%.  Read more
