For inspiration in business and in life, Julie Austin doesn’t need to look far. All she has to do is talk to her mother and grandmother. Julie, 22, will be the third generation in her family to graduate from the CU Denver Business School when she finishes her studies next year. Her mother, Christie Austin, 61, and her grandmother, Emily Hamrick, 87, are both successful businesswomen.  Read more

From growing up homeless to becoming a single father, Geoffrey King has faced much hardship in his life. However, King never allowed these difficulties to keep him from pursuing his dreams. He is currently a senior pursuing a BSBA in Accounting and Finance with the support of a full-tuition scholarship, the Reisher Scholars Award. Since 2016, three outstanding Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) students have landed internships with the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices, Ltd (NAPSLO). Taylor Brock is a dual major in Finance and Risk Management and Insurance. He is also the first CU Denver RMI student to be invited to participate in the new Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association’s (WSIA) Annual Conference in San Diego this September.  Read more

Over 80 commodities researchers and practitioners came from across the world to attend the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities (JPMCC) inaugural New Directions in Commodities Research International Symposium on August 9-11 in Denver to discuss critical thinking and new research related to commodities. The agenda for the conference included keynote speakers, speaker sessions organized by academic and practitioner members of the Center’s Research Council, and competitive academic sessions selected by the Technical Committee consisting of Research Council members.  Read more

Internship season is full swing, with CU Denver Business School students putting their expertise into action with area firms. And they’re doing some pretty impressive things. Take Louis Nyamekye, an incoming senior studying Finance and Risk Management and Insurance, with a minor in Communication. Despite having a full academic year still ahead of him, Nyamekye was able to secure an internship with Arrow Electronics for the summer of 2017, working as a finance and risk management intern in the company’s treasury department.  Read more
