Social entrepreneurship recently touched down in the city of Denver at Project X-ITE’s Flight to Denver, a UN Solutions Summit boot camp for entrepreneurs from all over the world. CU Denver Business School faculty and students contributed to the weekend’s success by participating and leading the teams that supported entrepreneurs from across the globe. University of Colorado Denver MBA student Derek Safko noticed that simply saying “car wash business” is like tossing a wet blanket over potential investors. They often zone out before he can reveal the breadth of his plan to revolutionize the industry. So, Safko took the extreme step of conducting a moonshot – quite literally. After weeks of watching weather patterns, he launched a copy of his business plan to the edge of space.  Read more

On March 16th, the Denver Business Journal (DBJ) hosted its annual “40 under 40” event, in which the publication recognized 40 of the most successful and innovative local professionals under the age of 40 in metro Denver. According to the DBJ, the final 40 were selected from a pool consisting of 307 nominees, who had received more than 500 nominations in total. Among the 40 honorees this year, eight–nearly a quarter of all winners–were affiliated with CU Denver.  Read more

Abdul Sesay, Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) doctoral candidate, was recently awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant to continue his research on the impact of the use of body-worn cameras (BWC) in Colorado police departments. The NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant is a highly competitive national award that supports research that uses historical, philosophical, and social scientific methods to investigate the intellectual, material, and social facets of the scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical (STEM) disciplines.  Read more

In late March, three CU Denver Health Administration MBA students competed in the 8^th Annual Business School Alliance for the Health Management (BAHM) Case Competition at the Haas School of Business. The team traveled to Berkeley, California to present their case on the topic of “President-elect Trump & The Future of Healthcare Reform” and network with hundreds of top healthcare players.  Read more

Two CU Denver Business School Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) students were selected to travel to the Surplus Lines Association of California (SLACAL) Annual Meeting in San Francisco on February 7, 2017. This is the second time that students have been generously sponsored by SLACAL to attend their Annual Meeting. The students enjoyed an action packed two days of visits with carriers and brokers, as well as introductions to leaders in the California wholesale market.  Read more
