With the end of the semester and the winter holiday season rapidly approaching, we encourage our CU Business School students to spend time giving back to the community surrounding and supporting us. There are a number of opportunities and affiliated programs you can engage in! The following are ways you can spend your time contributing to your community these upcoming months.

Hans Mortimer is excited to begin a new career as a public accountant after graduating from the MS Accounting program at CU Denver in the spring of 2020, just one year after enrolling in the program. Hans’ path to an accounting degree was not straightforward, but his passion for continued growth and learning drew him back to school to study accounting. Hans originally studied biology and K-12 education as an undergraduate at the University of California – Berkeley, where he studied Vitamin A metabolism as a student researcher in the Napoli lab.  Read more

President and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Brough (MBA ’89) has held some interesting jobs in her career, including human resources director for the City and County of Denver, chief of staff to former Mayor John Hickenlooper, and snowplow driver at Stapleton International Airport. Throughout her life, she has been a trailblazer: she was the first female to hold various positions—including her current title.  Read more

Tanner decided CU Denver Business School would be his next adventure. Tanner Calhoun has had an adventurous life. He has served in the Marine Corps, worked a drilling rig and in construction, been a hotshot firefighter, an EMT, a massage therapist, and even been a professional rodeo clown and bullfighter. Tanner’s most recent move has been a bit tamer by conventional standards, but he still finds it exciting.  Read more

Charlotte Bockstahler, a CU Denver Business School alum and accomplished leader in the sports and entertainment industry, knew early on she had found the right career field. Charlotte started her career in sports while she was an undergraduate student at University of Colorado – Boulder. She got an internship in corporate sales at the Pepsi Center, where she worked for the Avalanche, the Nuggets, and the Mammoth.  Read more

DENVER, October 8, 2019 —The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative (DFEI) at the University of Colorado Denver Business School announces that Bob Hottman, partner at Plante Moran, has been selected as the 2019 Bill Daniels Ethical Leader of the Year. Now in its fifth year, the award will be presented to Hottman at the State of Small Business on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, hosted by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and the University of Colorado Denver Business School.  Read more

When Ryan Pocius enrolled in the Global Energy Management Program at the CU Denver Business School, he focused on a future in oil and gas finance. It was 2010, and oil prices were trending toward $100 a barrel; so, who could blame him? For the next 18 months, Ryan was immersed in the business of energy. His learning would include all energy sectors and encompass the regulations, global economics, technology, and geopolitics that affect how companies operate.  Read more
